how to fix a broken girl

drolldy’s cherished porcelain bisque figurine was "very very expensive," she once told me when i was a teenager first visiting. it’s a bisque porcelain swedish girl. i think the oldies had for for a really long time, but then last year she suffered a tragic demise during their daring cross-country escape. unfortunately, the swedish girl shattered during their move.  while drolldy was en route on a complicated flight, i carefully glued the pieces back together.

one small piece remains missing, but when drolldy saw it, she was just happy that the swedish girl was fixable, and not irreparably gone forever.  drolldy didn't care; seeing it mended meant more than a perfect figurine.

it made me think about how we can mend the broken pieces in our lives. we can leave them broke and do without, or we can try to heal and get as close as we can to whole again. once i was a broken girl too, and the oldies shared their glue with me. but it was my job to take it, appreciate it, and figured out how to use it to make me the strongest me i can be… so that i can share mine with them now. that’s real love!

drolldy has it up high, where doesn’t ever have to look at the ugly-ass hole in the back where the missing piece is. my hope is that she’ll someday let me try to restore it with a little foam clay.
