happy fat goth girl toons

the goth toons were meant to be simple. basic shapes first—like a sketchbook doodle. then i went in and added little things: freckles, shoelaces, tiny details. i like starting clean and building texture later. rounded shapes are forgiving, but sharp lines are quicker to draw. i use both.

these characters don’t have big backstories. they’re moods. they’re just little snapshots of a feeling—melancholy, maybe, or some quiet little edge. i want them to say “i’m weird, but i’m fine.” you know? that vibe. they don’t shout, but they definitely know who they are.

my palette stays dark—navy, grape, burgundy—with just enough pop to pull focus. i use gradients constantly. life works in gradients. light and dark, all at once. even a cartoon should feel like it belongs to that messy, emotional space. cute and creepy can sit side by side. that’s where they’re strongest.
